What is Historical Documentation?
Historical documents are contemporary, first-hand records of events. Here are some examples of things that may be considered historical documents for enrollment purposes:
Census records
Court petitions
Land records
Will and estate records
Contemporary newspaper articles
Family Bible records
Birth, death, and marriage records
Contemporary journals or letters
Contemporary legal documents
The following do not qualify as historical documentation of Conestoga-Susquehannock ancestry:
Family oral traditions or stories
Having “Native American features”
DNA tests showing some degree of Native American DNA
Modern affidavits or testimonies claiming historic Native American heritage (affidavits and legal testimonies must be contemporary with the ancestor in question)
